Do we really need them? Are they different from a face moisturizer? Let’s find out!
Have you seen ads for neck creams and serums all over your social media feed lately? I have! But, do we really need another skin care product taking up space in our bathrooms?
Many older women are bothered by aging, crepey skin on their necks. In this video we’ll talk about specialized neck creams as well as other ways to care for your neck. I will review three neck creams that I’ve tried from DRMTLGY, Prai Beauty, and Dermalogica, (Not sponsored) and I’ll let you know my findings.
Taking Care of your Neck
As you know, our necks are very important. We would literally lose our heads without them! Did you know the average head weighs 10-12 lbs?
The further we bend our necks, like when we are looking at our phones, the heavier our heads get. If you’re looking at your phone all day that could really be straining your neck. This will not only hurt your neck but it will also cause wrinkles around your neck. To help with this try holding your phone at eye level.
Just like anything else on your body, your neck is affected by genetics, posture, sleeping positions, and sun exposure.
Why not just use a body or face moisturizer on your neck?
Our necks have fewer sebaceous glands than our face. Therefore, we need something more moisturizing and richer for this area of skin.
Neck creams have more tightening agents, for example, hyaluronic acid.
As a result, neck creams are more rich and moisturizing than regular face or body lotion.
I used to just use my facial moisturizer on my neck, but two years ago DRMTLGY sent me their Neck Cream.
I’ve been using it since I received it, and I have seen an improvement. It has made my skin much smoother, my wrinkles less apparent, and I really liked how rich and moisturizing it felt.
PRAI has quite a few items for the neck. My first thought was, who needs a multi step regimen for their neck? Below are three products that are used together.
This serum has a rollerball which gives a nice cool massage when applied. It has a very slight fragrance which is very subtle and yummy!
This is the day cream that you put over the serum. It’s a very rich cream that feels very luxurious.
The night creme has different ingredients than the day cream. It includes retinol, which is something you only want to use at night as it can breakdown in the sun and can make skin more sensitive.
After trying all three, I really enjoyed the ritual of a multi step skin routine. Applying the serum, day creme and night cream felt nice to me.
I’m a huge fan of Dermalogica products. I’ve been using the Neck Fit Contour Serum for about three weeks.
This serum is applied with a rollerball. The rollerball has an interesting feature in that you can squeeze the product out and lock it into place so no extra comes out as you’re rolling it on your skin.
The serum goes on smoothly but it dries very quickly. I wish it was a little bit more rich and moisturizing. This product would work well with another moisturizer over it to seal in the serum.
How You Can Make Your Own Neck Cream:
- Take a bottle of your favorite daily moisturizer, I like Aveeno
- Add some jojoba oil or sweet almond oil and a drop of lavender essential oil for fragrance. This will make transform your daily moisturizer into a luxurious moisturizer perfect for your delicate neck and decolletage.
I will continue to use these neck creams because I find that that do make a difference. My skin feels more supple, I’ve noticed a decrease in fine lines, and I really enjoy the ritual of adding this to my skincare routine.
Also, don’t forget to use sunscreen! It is also extremely important to use sunscreen on this area. That is where the sun is beating down on us most often and the skin on our necks is so thin and delicate.
